Super Smash Flash is where the series began. McLeodGaming released it in 2006 as a fan-made platform fighter inspired by Nintendo's crossover brawlers, and it is the game Super Smash Flash 2 grew out of. If you came to this site for the sequel, this is the earlier, smaller and rougher version of the same idea, and it is worth a look to see how much of the formula was already there.
The roster starts with 13 fighters, running from Mario to Blade, and another 15 can be unlocked as you play. Modes include Classic, Adventure and Multi-Man Melee, plus a VS. Mode for playing against a friend or the computer. Matches are about knocking opponents off the stage rather than emptying a health bar, so a round is short and a rematch is always one click away.
The original was a Flash file, and it now runs through the Ruffle emulator, so it opens in the page with nothing to install. Expect the look and feel of a 2006 Flash game: simple menus, compact stages and only three buttons to learn.

Two people can share one keyboard, with player 1 on the right-hand keys and player 2 on the left. Click inside the game window first so it captures your key presses.
Super Smash Flash 2 is the big sequel, with a much larger roster and more polish. Gun Mayhem 2 and Bearsus also have you pushing opponents off a stage, but Gun Mayhem is built around firearms and Bearsus is a small two-player duel. Stickman Battle and Stickman Fighter: Epic Battles are closer to traditional fighters, and Sumo Party turns the idea into a party game.
It suits a quick session with a friend at one keyboard, or anyone curious about where the series started.
Super Smash Flash runs in an ordinary browser tab from supersmashflash2.org, with nothing to download or install, so it plays on most school Chromebooks and work computers. If a network filter blocks the site, only that network's administrator can change it.
